解説：
1845年7月16日付ハーシェルからの第2書簡に関するミルのメモ書き。ハーシェルからミル宛ての書簡原典下書きは、王立協会図書館ハーシェル文書館（Herschel Archives at the Library of The Royal Society）の所蔵である（Schweberを見よ）。ミルのメモ書き最初の7行は、シュウィーバーのAppendix Bの2段落目と一致している。一部異なるものの、ハーシェル書簡下書きからの引用である。シュウィーバーのAppendix Bの冒頭は、My dear Sir / Pray do as you suggest if you think it will obviate any idea of personal desrespect.となっており、それをミルは写していない。また、ミルメモ書き3段落8行（Now the nebular hyp....）以降の文章は、ミルによって、ハーシェルへの再返書のために書かれたものと思われる。
